Stock by Measure ("the app", "we", "us") is a Shopify app made by AO Johnson Design, based in Minnesota, USA. It keeps stock accurate for products sold in measured sizes, sends low-stock and back-in-stock emails, and shows stock on a store's product pages. This policy explains what information the app collects when a store installs it, how we use it, and the choices merchants and their customers have.
Information we collect from merchants
When a merchant installs and uses the app, we collect and store:
- The store's Shopify domain, name, contact email, time zone and the access token Shopify issues to the app.
- Settings entered in the app, such as the low-stock alert email address and units.
- Products, sizes and locations the merchant chooses to manage: their names and Shopify IDs, stock counts and the amount of stock held at each location.
- A history of stock changes, including any lot numbers, expiry dates and notes the merchant enters.
- The number of orders the store receives each month, used only to apply plan limits. The app counts orders; it does not read or store order contents or customer details from orders.
- The store's plan and billing status, read from Shopify.
Information we collect from the store's customers
Only if a merchant adds the back-in-stock form to their store, and only when a shopper uses it, we collect: the shopper's email address, the product and size they asked about, whether they agreed to receive marketing from the store, and when they signed up, were emailed, clicked the email's link or unsubscribed. On the merchant's behalf, the app also saves the shopper as a customer in the merchant's Shopify admin, tagged "back-in-stock", with marketing consent recorded only if the shopper gave it.
The app's storefront blocks do not set cookies or track shoppers. Our hosting provider may briefly keep standard technical logs (such as IP addresses) of requests to the app for security and troubleshooting.
How we use information
- To keep the merchant's stock counts in Shopify accurate and show stock on their storefront.
- To send the merchant low-stock emails, and to send shoppers the one back-in-stock email they asked for.
- To apply the merchant's plan limits and show their usage.
- To provide support, fix problems and keep the app secure.
We do not sell or rent personal information, use it for advertising, or share it with anyone except the service providers below. Shopper email addresses are used only to send the back-in-stock email the shopper requested.
Service providers
We use these companies to run the app. Each processes data only to provide its service to us:
- Shopify: the platform the app runs on, and where customer records are saved.
- Render: hosting and database, in the United States.
- Resend: sending the app's emails.
Merchants and their customers
For shopper information collected through a store's back-in-stock form, the merchant decides how it is used and we process it on their behalf. Shoppers with questions about their information should contact the store first; we will help the store respond.
How long we keep information
- Merchant and shopper information is kept while the app is installed.
- When a store uninstalls the app, Shopify notifies us 48 hours later and we then delete all of that store's information. Customers already saved to the store's Shopify admin remain the store's own records.
- When Shopify sends a request to delete a customer's information, we delete that shopper's back-in-stock sign-ups. When it sends a request for a customer's information, we provide it to the store.
Security
Information is sent over encrypted connections (HTTPS) and stored in a managed database that is encrypted at rest. Access is limited to the people who maintain the app, and only as needed to run and support it.
Your rights
Depending on where you live, including under the GDPR and California privacy law, you may have the right to access, correct, delete or receive a copy of your personal information, and to object to or limit how it's used. Merchants can make requests by emailing us. Shoppers can ask the store they signed up with, or email us and we will work with that store. We will not treat you differently for exercising these rights.
Shoppers can stop back-in-stock emails at any time with the unsubscribe link in the email.
Children
The app is meant for businesses and is not directed to children under 16.
International transfers
Information is processed in the United States. Where the law requires, we rely on appropriate safeguards for transfers from other countries.
Changes to this policy
If we change this policy, we will update the date at the top of this page and, for significant changes, let merchants know in the app or by email.
